Im back!

Well im proving to be pretty usless at this blogging business, always finding reasons or time to not sit down and put my thoughts into words!

Since my last entry in march, i have had a good summer walking both here in England, Wales and France. Upgraded my camera and bought a camcorder to film some of my walks and wild camps. I've made more outdoor friends on Twitter and even met up with some of them at the Peak District social weekend at Crowdecote.

I continue to get out with my friend Terrybnd as often as i can as he is a right character, full of mischief but also a man of intense focus and dedication to his work as an outdoor videographer. That reminds me,
he has two huge projects for this year that need your support to make the vision a reality. The first is a Film made in conjunction with the famous outdoor writer Chris Townsend. It is all about winter in the Cairngorms national park. Click the following link for more information and how you could support this fantastic venture.

I've also met and been on a couple of camps with Yuri aka moonlightshadow as he is well known.
Yuri is another great guy to spend time with in the hills, he is interesting to have conversation with and has many views on the world and life. I would never tire chatting with him. He also carried my pack and his own on a descent from Kinder Scout as i have a knee injury that continually flares up. Top man and someone else i now see as a friend.

Im in the process of editing a video i made on a camp i had with them both in September and will post it here once it is complete.

A weekend with Terrybnd

A few weeks ago i was having a conversation with Terrybnd about a video project he had been commisioned to do for Staffordshire County Council...

Our Welsh odyssey

After our visit to Edale two weeks earlier, we decided we wanted to try something a little different that would combine two days walking and wildcamp with a final night at a campsite at the end of the walk. We decided on the Aran ridge in Snowdonia which is a linear walk taking in Aran Fawddwy (905 metres) and Aran Benllyn (885 metres). The plan was to take in both summits on the first day then camp overnight up high before dropping back down to civilisation in Llanuwchllyn on the second day.

Vale of Edale, Lose Hill and Mam Tor

A day walk around the valley of Edale and up onto Lose Hill and onwards to Mam Tor.
The route basically starts at The Old Nags Head pub and follows the valley bottom south of Kinder passing through Ollerbrook Booth, Nether Booth, Clough Farm, onto a short section of road,Car House Farm, Edale end, under a railway bridge (Bagshaw bridge on the OS map). We then follow the footpath past Oaker Farm until we reach a signpost for Townhead. Turning right up the footpath this takes us to the summit of Lose Hill then its a simple walk along the ridge to Back Tor, Hollins Cross and the Hill fort summit of Mam Tor. Finally we descent from Mam Tor back to Edale via Harden Clough. Time taken 5.5 hrs at a steady pace and rest stops to enjoy the views.

We Drove up to Edale on the Friday night and spent the night at Waterside campsite overlooking Broadlee-Bank Tor.

Im sat here in my living room, looking out of the window at a dull, grey and rainy day, wishing i was back up on Kinder Scout. Looking forward to taking a new way up to explore the south eastern flanks and seeking out a cheeky little spot to wildcamp ;)

Just gotta persuade the wife to say yes. Best get out and buy her some chocolate =)

A walk in the Goyt Valley

This is a lovely little circular walk of approx 16km that we did on a bright September day.

Car parking is at GR: SK 013756 west of Errwood Dam.

Beginning of the walk, looking back towards the car park at the end of the road.
